ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Skidmore built a 4-0 lead Sunday and the Thoroughbreds went on to take a 5-2 field hockey victory over the Golden Flyers in a non-conference game.

Skidmore won for the third straight time to even its record at 6-6. Nazareth dropped to 6-7 overall.

Nazareth got second-half goal that came three minutes apart from freshman Mikaylee Whalen and sophomore Molly Calpin. Those scores enabled the Golden Flyers to close within 4-2 late in the game. Skidmore, however, got a late goal from Grace Florsheim to make it a 5-2 final.

Marissa Folts had two goals for Skidmore, including one on a first-half penalty stroke at 20:53. That gave Skidmore a 3-0 advantage before halftime. The Thoroughbreds tacked on another goal early in the second half with Gabrielle Vaccaro generating one of her two assists.

Nazareth finally broke through when Whalen scored unassisted for her fourth tally of the season. Calpin's goal, her second of the season, came off an assist by Whalen.

Skidmore had a 17-8 advantage in shots and a 14-7 edge in penalty corners. Kimber Nourse started in goal for Nazareth and made eight saves. Ashley Mann played the final 7:38 and had two saves.

The Golden Flyers resume their Empire 8 Conference schedule Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home match against Elmira.
