HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Four different players scored goals as the Nazareth College men's soccer team clinched an Empire 8 Conference playoff spot with a 4-1 win Saturday afternoon at Houghton College.

Freshman Sam Smyth scored a goal and added two assists while fellow freshman Zein Mohamed had a pair of assists to lead the Golden Flyers (10-6-1 overall, 4-2-1 E8). The fourth conference win of the season puts Nazareth among the top four teams in the conference standings to earn a spot in the championship tournament that will be played Nov. 2-3.

Smyth opened the scoring 13 minutes into the contest as Mohamed recorded the assist to give the Golden Flyers the early lead.

Less than 10 minutes later, freshman Adoniadis Savidis scored from a Smyth pass to give Nazareth the 2-0 lead and freshman Max Lichtman added a third goal from a Smyth pass before the end of the first half.

In the second half, sophomore Jake Adams added to the lead with his team-leading seventh goal of the season to make it a 4-0 Nazareth lead.

Houghton (6-11-0, 2-5-0) scored its only goal in the 69th minute for the final margin of victory.

The Golden Flyers will finish the regular season with a home contest against Hartwick at 6 p.m. Monday night on the Artificial Turf at Nazareth.
