ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Nazareth College offense that had scored eight goals in the previous three games, was held scoreless for the first time in a month as the Golden Flyers dropped a 1-0 decision to SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference match Tuesday at Golden Flyer Stadium.
The only goal of the game came 15 minutes into the second half as Geneseo (6-6-3) was pressuring forward and into the 18-yard box before a Knights player was tackled from behind that resulted in a penalty kick for Geneseo.
Ari Samoohy scored on the penalty kick into the left side of the goal to give Geneseo the 1-0 lead.
The Nazareth (9-4-1) offense applied pressure late in the game but was unable to produce a scoring opportunity in close.
The best scoring chances for the Golden Flyers came in the first half as sophomore Jake Adams fired a shot from 10 yards out that went just over the cross bar 10 minutes into the contest and then freshman Zein Mohamed had a shot from close range that was saved by the Geneseo keeper as he tipped it over the goal.
The shots were even for the game with Geneseo taking 12 with five on goal and Nazareth taking 10 with two on goal. Nazareth held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks including a 4-0 advantage in the first half.
Nazareth returns to Empire 8 action Saturday with a 1:30 home contest against Stevens in Golden Flyer Stadium and will also play SUNY Delhi the following day in a non-conference game with a 1 pm start.
