HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Host Stevens scored a pair of second-half goals about eight minutes apart to break open a close game and the Ducks went on to a 3-0 field hockey victory over Nazareth in field hockey.
Stevens, with the key Empire 8 Conference victory, improved to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. Nazareth dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8. Nazareth plays again Saturday at Sage.
Saturday's game was competitive in that Stevens had a 22-14 edge in shots and an 9-8 advantage in penalty corners. The Ducks broke through in the first half at 16:04 as Ireland Tawney delivered her eighth goal of the season as she knocked in a rebound off an initial save by Nazareth goalie
Kimber Nourse.
In the second half, Skylar Migliaccio scored twice for the Ducks. The first goal came off a penalty corner at 55:32 as Tawney and Michaela Thompson collected assists. Less than eight minutes later, Tawney scored again off an assist from Hannah Silverstri.
Nazareth had scoring chances as freshman
Mikaylee Whalen generated five shots, senior
Jessica Livesey had four and junior
Jennifer Hilts two. Nourse finished with seven saves.
