HAMBURG, NY – Host Hilbert flipped a 13-point deficit into a 79-66 victory Monday night thanks to a poor shooting spell from Nazareth in the second half in which it scored just nine points over the final 11:36.
Nazareth drops to 6-4 with the loss, while Hilbert improves to 8-4.
After holding a 42-29 at the half on 57.7 percent (15-for-26) from the floor, the Golden Flyers shot just 25.7 percent in the second (9-for-35) which allowed the Hawks to outscore the visitors 50-24.
Nazareth led by as many as 16 five minutes into the second following a jumper from Tyler Stenglein.
Hilbert slowly trimmed the Golden Flyers lead to 10 at the 11:36 mark, when a 3-pointer from Cody Green made it 57-47.
The Golden Flyers then hit a cold spell, as Hilbert went on a 13-0 run over a nearly five minute span to claim the lead, 60-57.
Jake Burgio ended the drought to close the gap to 60-59, however, Hilbert quickly rebuilt a five-point margin and maintained a comfortable distance the rest of the contest.
Burgio was the leading scorer for the Golden Flyers on an efficient 9-for-13, for 22 points, while also pulling down eight rebounds.
Green was 4-for-12 from downtown on his way to 21 points, while Stenglein was good for 12 points and three assists.
Nazareth returns to action on Friday, hosting Alfred for an Empire 8 contest.
