Huntington, PA – Sixth-ranked Juniata made quick work of No. 13 Nazareth Friday night, winning in straight sets, 23-25, 24-26, 13-25. With the loss, Nazareth falls to 3-2, while Juniata moves to 3-4.
In the opening set the score was tied at 14 apiece, before Juniata opened up a 20-17 advantage.
The Golden Flyers inched to within 23-24, however, the Eagles closed out the set as Nazareth was done in by a service error.
The second set was tightly contested as well, with Nazareth putting together its best attacking numbers – 15 kills on 26 attempts with five errors (.385). A kill from
Sean Dillon gave the visitors an 18-16 advantage. Juniata fought back for set point at 24-22, only to have Nazareth even the score at 24-24. The Eagles responded with the final two points to open to 2-0 advantage.
The momentum carried over for Juniata in the third, jumping out to an 11-4 margin and never looking back to earn the sweep.
Dillon was a bright spot for the Golden Flyers with eight kills on a .545 attack percentage.
Zachary Gillard and
Kane Wittorff were each good for seven kills and four digs.
Senior
Jake Kemp chipped in 31 assists, with a team-high six digs.
Nazareth returns to action Saturday for two contests, taking on host Penn St. Altoona at 11 a.m. and Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
