ROCHESTER, NY – Ninth-ranked Ithaca outscored Nazareth 6-1 in the third quarter to break a halftime tie, ultimately taking Saturday's matchup 13-8 at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Nazareth falls to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 with the loss, while Ithaca improves to 9-2 and 3-1, respectively. Ithaca snaps a two-game losing streak after falling in overtime to both SUNY Cortland and Stevens.
The Golden Flyers got off to the start they wanted, scoring three of the first four goals of the contest in less than four minutes.
Seth DeLisle won the opening faceoff and bolted straight down for his first goal of the season. DeLisle continued his impressive season at the faceoff circle, going 19-for-25 with 12 ground balls.
Joe Eiskant and
Hunter Burdick each notched unassisted goals to give Nazareth a 3-1 advantage. Following Burdick's goal at the 11:49 mark of the first, Nazareth went without a goal until early in the third quarter.
After holding a 3-2 lead after the first, Ithaca scored the lone goal in the second to bring the score to 3-3 at the break.
Paul Walter took an assist from
Jack Crowley to match Ithaca with 11:39 remaining in the third. The rest of the quarter belonged to the Bombers, as they went on a 5-0 run to break open a 9-4 advantage.
Ithaca matched Nazareth's four goals in the fourth quarter, never allowing the Golden Flyers to come closer than a five-goal margin.
Tristan Gosselin scored his first collegiate goal from over half-field in the fourth.
Burdick and Eiskant each tallied two goals in the contest. Crowley contributed one goal and an assist.
Alex Winkler took the loss in net with 11 saves.
Nazareth returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Utica College for a 4 p.m. showdown.
