Men's Lax Downs Utica Behind Career Day From Basile

ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth scored a season-high in goals, behind a career-high seven from Anthony Basile, in a 21-11 victory over Utica College Wednesday at Golden Flyer Stadium.  Basile also tied a career-high with four assists.

With the win, Nazareth improves to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in conference play, while Utica falls to 7-4 and 2-2, respectively.  The Pioneers came into the contest riding a five-game win streak.

The Golden Flyers outscored Utica by a 6-4 margin in both the first and second quarters to take a 12-8 margin into the locker room.

Utica had its lone lead of the game at 2-1 five minutes in, however Nazareth responded with the next three goals midway through to grab the edge. Basile scored two of his six first half goals in an eight-second span and assisted on another to Paul Walter for a 4-2 lead.

After Utica evened the score at 6-6 early in the second, Nazareth scored the next three from Walter, Basile and Hunter Burdick.

Basile also scored the final two goals of the quarter to give Nazareth its 12-8 halftime lead.

The third quarter belonged to the Golden Flyers, as they outscored the opposition 6-1.  Walter, who had four goals and one assist in the game, started things off with a feed from Joe Eiskant.  Seth DeLisle recorded his second goal of the season after winning a faceoff.  He won 19-of-28 faceoffs.

Nick Arnold had one of his three goals in the third, while Eiskant scored with :18 seconds to play.

Holding an 18-9 lead heading into the final quarter, Nazareth added the next three insurance goals.  Matthew May notched his first of the season in between goals from Jack Crowley and Jacob Gray,

Nazareth had three goalies see time, with Alex Winkler getting the start.  He allowed eight goals and made eight saves in a half of play.  Andrew Leahey surrendered three goals and stopped five shots in 22:33 of work.  Rick Kronenwett cleaned up with two saves.

Burdick chipped in a goal and three assists, while Crowley had one goal and two assists.

Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, traveling to Hartwick for a pivotal Empire 8 matchup.
