Rochester, NY – Visiting Nazareth fell behind by 11 points in the opening quarter and host Rochester cruised to a 78-55 victory Saturday night in the final game of the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout.
Nazareth has now lost three straight contests to drop to 2-4 overall, while Rochester improves to 8-1 on the year.
Sophomore forward Rachel Benedict was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nazareth had a slow start to the game, scoring just eight points in the first quarter, while Rochester put in 19.
Samantha Peebles continued to be a force offensively, leading Nazareth with 19 points (6-for-10) in the game. She scored 12 of the Golden Flyers 22 points in the opening half as Nazareth trailed 37-22 heading to the break.
The visitors put their best offensive output together in the third quarter, registering 22 points, but the Yellowjackets gave no ground, putting up 24 points of their own.
Nazareth cut the lead to 13 points on three different occasions in the third quarter, however, that is as close as it would come.
Nazareth finished the game shooting 19-for-51 (37.3 percent) from the floor, while the hosts were 28-for-60 (46.7 percent).
Benedict finished with 14 points (5-for-8) and six boards.
Lizzie Straub (3-for-7) and Haley Schoelerman (2-for-5) each chipped in six points.
Nazareth is now off until December 29 when it hosts William Smith at 6 p.m.
