ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth used a collective hitting percentage of .226 Wednesday to surge to a three-set sweep over visiting RIT in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Kidera Gymnasium. Scores were 25-17, 25-12, 25-23.
The victory boosted Nazareth's overall record to 14-7, while the Tigers dropped to 11-11.
Junior
Madison Joseph paced a balanced attack with nine kills and seven digs. Sophomore
Melissa Newcomb added eight kills and sophomore
Delaney Martin had seven.
Freshman setter
Jessica Barry combined 28 assists with eight digs and freshman libero
Savannah Bothner had a match-best 13 digs.
Nazareth cruised through the first two sets with little difficulty. Joseph, Newcomb and junior
Kelsey Milligan each had three kills in the first set and Joseph and Martin each had three in the second set.
The Golden Flyers led for most of the third set, before RIT rallied to take late leads of 22-20 and 23-21. Nazareth scored the final four points on an RIT service error, a kill by Milligan and two by Martin.
Sara Taylor had a match-high 13 kills for RIT.
Nazareth goes to RIT this weekend for a non-league tournament. Nazareth takes on Springfield Friday at 7, then Brockport and Geneseo Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
