Fourth-Quarter Rally Pushes Harwtick Past Women's Hoops

ROCHESTER, NY – Visiting Hartwick outscored Nazareth 24-2 in the fourth quarter to overcome a 12-point deficit and defeat the Golden Flyers 65-55 Saturday at Kidera Gymnasium. 

Nazareth falls to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play, while Hartwick moves to 11-6 and 7-1, respectively.

The Golden Flyers held a 53-41 lead heading into the final quarter before a defensive zone adjustment from the Hawks disrupted Nazareth's rhythm.

Hartwick scored the first 17 points of the quarter, before Rachel Benedict scored the lone bucket with 4:20 to play.

Nazareth was 1-for-14 in the final quarter.

In the first quarter, Nazareth hit six field goals, four of which (4-of-6) came from the 3-point line.  Samantha Peebles had two 3-pointers in the quarter en route to her team-leading 10 points at halftime.

Delaney Martin sunk a putback shot from the foul line as time expired to cut Hartwick's lead to 18-15.

Rose Pedretti hit one of her two 3-pointers in the second quarter to tie the game at 25 apiece with 6:25 to play. 

The Golden Flyers led 34-33 at the break. 

In the third quarter, Nazareth closed on an 11-4 run to open up a 53-41 lead.  Lizzie Straub and Sam Sorge connected from deep on the run and Pedretti drove the lane with a buzzer-beating layup as time expired.

Peebles was the leading scorer for Nazareth with 15 points (5-for-10), while also collecting 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.

Sorge put down 12 points on 5-for-16.  Pedretti tallied a career-high 10 points (4-for-6) and pulled down four boards.

Straub and Benedict each chipped in eight points.

Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday when it will travel to Elmira for a 6 p.m. contest.
