ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth put the finishing touches on a strong non-conference women's soccer weekend as the Golden Flyers blanked Clarkson at Golden Flyer Stadium, 4-0.
Combined with a 1-1 tie at home Friday against St. Lawrence, Nazareth improved to 3-1-2 overall with its fourth shutout of the season.
Four different players scored for the Golden Flyers, who bolted to a 3-0 lead before halftime and were never seriously challenged thereafter. Sophomore
Jessica Byrnes scored her second goal of the season in the 12th minute as she knocked in a rebound off a shot initially taken by
Laura Herman, who gained the assist.
About two minutes later, sophomore
Mary Kate Ordway picked up her second goal of the season as her shot through a maze of players eluded Clarkson keeper Elyse Green for the second goal. Then in the 34th minute, junior
Paige Sullivan, just seconds after checking into the game, scored her first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore
Elizabeth Guidi.
Nazareth closed out the scoring in the 64th minute as junior
Julia Delgatti netted her first goal of the season as her shot from the right wing, deflected off Green's finger tips before finding its place in the net.
Nazareth enjoyed a 23-7 shooting advantage and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Senior
Allison Dobles made three saves and combined with freshman
Hannah Miller to gain the shutout.
Nazareth plays its next three games on the road, including its Empire 8 Conference opener next Saturday at Stevens at 12 p.m. Before that, Nazareth visits RIT Wednesday at 4 p.m.
