HOUGHTON, NY – Sophomore Haley DeVona scored five of Nazareth's 10 first half goals to help lead the Golden Flyers to a 13-7 road victory over Houghton College on Wednesday night.  DeVona, Nazareth's leading goal scorer with 41 tallies in 2016, has now found the back of the net 12 times in the last two contests.  She also had an assist in the win.

Nazareth now has 10 wins on the season to go along with 5 losses.  The Golden Flyers are 5-2 in conference play.  Houghton falls to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in Empire 8 play.

Houghton scored the first two goals of the game, before Nazareth responded with three goals of its own.  Haley DeVona scored on the extra-man opportunity, followed by unassisted goals from Katie Carroll and Kate Rothrock.

Following a two-goal rush from the Highlanders to briefly re-claim the lead, Nazareth closed the half on a 7-0 run. 

Senior defender Kayla McKay scored her first collegiate goal to even the score at 4-4 with 9:53 to play in the half.  Rothrock gave Nazareth the lead for good just :16 seconds later.

Haley DeVona scored four straight goals in the final 10 minutes to give the Golden Flyers a comfortable 10-4 halftime lead.

The second half saw much less scoring with each team pouring in three goals apiece.

Carly Gates scored the first goal of the second half and Nicole DeVona buried her second tally midway through to push the lead to 12-4.

Brianna Rizzari started in goal, playing 13:33 and allowing four goals.  Mackenzie Corbett closed out the game, surrendering three goals, while making four saves.

Rothrock had a game-high six points on three goals and three assists. 

McKay notched a game-high six draw controls, caused three turnovers and scooped up two ground balls. Gates had a game-high five ground balls and caused three turnovers in the win.

Nazareth closes out the regular season on Saturday, when it will host Utica College at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
