Updated StatsROCHESTER, NY –The Nazareth men's volleyball squad closed out United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play with a three set sweep of Penn State Behrend, 25-19, 26-24, 25-15, on Tuesday evening to finish 5-3 in conference play.
Nazareth, ranked ninth nationally, improves to 23-8 overall. Penn State Behrend drops to 7-16 and 1-5, respectively.
Nazareth took the opening set, earning 18 of its 25 points in the set off kills. It was a close first set, tied at 16 apiece, before Nazareth rattled of four straight points.
Tim Zyburt closed out the set with a service ace.
Facing set point in the second set, Nazareth was able to stave off a Lions win with a kill from Zyburt. The Golden Flyers then scored the final two points to take a two-sets-to-none lead.
The final set belonged to Nazareth from the get-go, scoring 12 of the first 16 points of the set. In all, Nazareth put down 14 kills on 23 attempts, with just three errors to hit .478.
Zyburt had a game-high 11 kills to go along with four digs, while
Tom Keisling notched eight kills (.294 attack percentage) and five digs.
Senior
Josh Hieb generated six kills on 12 attempts (.417).
Jake Kemp dished out 40 assists in the win.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will host Alderson Broaddus and Elmira at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively on Senior Day.
