OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Nazareth dropped its second straight men's lacrosse game to a nationally ranked opponent Saturday as 13th-ranked Denison rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Golden Flyers, 16-12, on day two of the Green Turtle Classic at Mustang Stadium.

Nazareth, ranked ninth nationally to start the weekend, also lost to sixth-ranked York, Pa. Friday and dropped to 4-2 overall. Denison advanced to 6-1 with its second win of the weekend. The Big Red also knocked off 19th-ranked Dickinson, 9-7, Friday.

Senior Matt O'Neill scored a career-best five goals for the Golden Flyers Saturday, but that couldn't offset five goals by Denison's Blair Farinholt and four more from James Meager. Nazareth scored the first two goals before the game was two minutes old -- Hunter Burdick and Nick Arnold -- but the Big Red answered with four straight goals and never trailed again.

O'Neill and freshman Anthony Basile each scored twice for Nazareth in the second quarter to tie the score at 5-5, but Denison scored three times in a span of 2:23 and then got an unassisted goal by Josh Happ with 1:00 left in the quarter to go up 9-7 at halftime.

Nazareth stayed within striking distance for much of the second half. A goal by Connor Chapman with 4:05 to go in the third kept Nazareth within 12-10, but Denison scored the next four goals bridging the third and fourth quarters to take its largest advantage at 16-10.

Denison was successful in limiting Nazareth's high-scoring attack tandem of Troy Haefele and Luke Wooters to just one goal each, although each had two assists. Junior Joe Eiskant also had three assists for. the Golden Flyers.

Denison had advantages in shots (40-32) and ground balls (33-32), while Nazareth won 17 of 32 face-offs. Sophomore Seth DeLisle took 15 of 24 and collected seven ground balls. Senior Scott Brown started in goal for Nazareth and had nine saves. He was replaced in the second quarter by freshman Robbie O'Toole, who was credited with three saves.

Nazareth is back home Wednesday to play Hamilton at 4 p.m
