Tournament siteROCHESTER, N.Y. – Fifth-ranked Nazareth made quick work of Hilbert and D'Youville College on Friday night, defeating both opponents in straight sets on the first day of the Golden Flyer Invitational. The Golden Flyers won by scores of 25-16, 25-9, 25-18 in their first match before defeating D'Youville 25-16, 25-15, 25-12 in the nightcap.
Nazareth improves to 9-1 on the season with the wins.
In the opening match, Sophomore
Sam Bittker banged out a match-high 12 kills to lead the way. Bittker's 12 kills came against four errors on 21 attempts for a .381 hitting percentage as an outside hitter. Senior

Jake Kemp totaled 20 assists. Freshman
Tyler Farnung had five assists and five service aces, while senior
John McCarty contributed seven digs.
Nazareth hit .365 overall (36-9-74) as a team, including a .688 percentage (12-1-16) in the second set. The first set was probably the most competitive as the set was tied at 12-12 before Nazareth used a 13-4 scoring run to close out the set. Bittker and Hieb each had four of their kills in that set.
It was much of the same for Nazareth in its second contest as the hosts hit an impressive .540 overall (39-5-63), including .700 in the second set.
Tim Zyburt notched a game-high 12 kills on a .647 hitting percentage, while also grabbing seven digs.
Grant Levermore put down seven kills on 12 attempts (.467) to go along with a block.
Jake Kemp finished with 34 assists.
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday, hosting Johnson & Wales at 11 a.m. and Medaille at 3 p.m.
