Houghton dominates Nazareth in men's soccer, 4-1

HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Host Houghton dominated Nazareth Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference men's soccer game as the Highlanders maintained their hold on first place in the conference standings with a 4-1 triumph.

Houghton improved to 4-0-0 in conference play and 8-2-2 overall. Nazareth is 0-3-1 in the E8 and 3-7-1 overall.

The Highlanders scored twice in ewach half and unleashed a 22-4 shooting advantage to cruise to a decisive win. Andrew Bussey scored two goals and added an assist and Landon Scheaffer and Tyler Ashley also scored as the Highlanders won for the seventh straight time.

The game was scoreless until the 25th minute, then Scheaffer and Bussey scored about six minutes apart to give Houghton a 2-0 lead before the half.

Bussey scored again in teh 53rd minute and Ashley scored his goal in the 61st minute of play.

Nazareth was able to avoid the shutout when Hari Vidadala scored with less than four minutes left off an assist from Christopher Rowland. Senior Nate Ripic went the distance in goal and was credited with seven saves.

The Golden Flyers are home Tuesday for a non-conference game against Alfred State at 4 p.m.
