Veronica Peck scored a season-high 19 points (7-for-12), while four other Golden Flyers scored in double figures, giving Nazareth a 73-53 road victory over Elmira College on Saturday night.
Nazareth's second conference win in as many days moves them to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. Elmira on the other hand, falls to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in Empire 8 play.
Trailing by two points in the first quarter, Nazareth went on a 10-0 run to open up an 18-10 lead.
Sam Sorge and
Julia Brew each knocked down 3-pointers during the run.
The visitors built their lead to 15 several times in the second quarter.
Lindsey Kelly converted a layup at the 7:35 mark to give Nazareth a 29-14 advantage.
Elmira managed to cut the lead to 37-27 at the break.
The Soaring Eagles were able to shave the deficit to single digits early in the third quarter. Nazareth, however, opened up a 20-point lead at 52-32 with five minutes remaining.
The home team built some momentum late in the quarter, but a
Kelly Broderick 3-pointer in the closing seconds kept the lead at 60-45.
In the final quarter, Nazareth outscored the opposition 13-8 to seal the win.
Kelly attempted just six shots in the game, finishing with 12 points and six boards.
Three Nazareth players finished with 10 points – Sorge,
Colby McCartney and
Samantha Peebles. Sorge also collected a game-high nine rebounds.
