Updated StatsHOBOKEN, N.J. – Host Stevens Institute outscored Nazareth 25-7 in the third quarter to erase a 10-point halftime deficit, fueling a 66-61 win at home Friday night.
Stevens remains undefeated in conference play at 7-0 and moves to 11-5 overall, while Nazareth falls to 4-3 and 11-5, respectively.
Nazareth saw a 32-22 halftime lead slip away in second half, as the Golden Flyers shot just 31 percent (10-of-32).
Stevens scored the first 10 points of the third quarter, before
Julia Brew knocked down a jumper at the 6:33 mark. The Ducks took a 47-39 lead into the final quarter.
In the final frame, Stevens opened its largest lead of the game at 57-45 with 2:56 left on the game clock.
The Golden Flyers kept fighting though and were able to use an 8-0 surge to trim the hosts lead to just 57-53.
On the ensuing possession, Stevens converted both free throws, and Nazareth would come no closer in the game.
Nazareth led the entire first half, as the defense held the Ducks to just 22.5 percent (9-for-40) from the field.
The Golden Flyers used a 10-2 run late in the first quarter to build a 19-10 advantage. Brew started off the stretch for Nazareth with a 3-pointer.
Stevens was held to just one bucket over the 5:38 of the half, allowing Nazareth to close on a 9-3 run. Nazareth led 32-22 at the break.
Lindsey Kelly finished with a game-high 22 points (9-of-12), while grabbing 15 rebounds. It was her third straight double-double and seventh of the season.
Sam Sorge notched 16 points (6-of-16), while
Veronica Peck tallied 11 (4-of-9).
Nazareth returns to action on Saturday when it will travel to Utica College for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
