Nazareth blanked at Brockport, 7-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Playing its second non-conference game in as many nights, Nazareth came out flat against Brockport Saturday in men's hockey as the host Golden Eagles scored a decisive 7-0 victory over the Golden Flyers. Nazareth also played at home Friday and defeated Franklin Pierce, 4-2. 

The victory was the first-ever for the Golden Eagles over Nazareth in men's hockey as the Golden Flyers had won the four previous meetings. Brockport improved to 7-7-2 overall, while Nazareth dropped to 5-7-4. 

Junior Brandon Lane was making his first appearance of the season in goal for Nazareth and he struggled by allowing two goals in the first period and two more in the second before being replaced by freshman Ty Hough, who surrendered three more goals as part of Brockport's five-goal second period.

Senior Scott Andler lead the way offensively for Nazarrth with eight shots, sophomore Oliver Janzen had four.

Brockport dominated the first period with a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal, but the game was scoreless until the Golden Eagles scored twice in a 41-second span to go up 2-0. Jesse Facchini and Chris Luker scored the goals. In the second period, Brockport scored three straight power play goals, including two by Tim Kielich, to go up 5-0. Zac Sikich, Jonathan Demme and Dylan Shaprio also scored.

Neither team scored in the final period of play. Nazareth was outshot 36-34 overall. The Golden Flyers had two power-play chances, but could not score and generated six shots.

Lane finished with 16 saves, while Hough had 13. Cole Burach stopped 34 shots for Brockport to gain credit for the shutout.

The Golden Flyers will travel to Geneva, NY to take on Hobart College on January 22nd at 7:30 p.m.
