BoxCLERMONT, Fla. -- Sophomore
Kate Rothrock scored a career-best five goals and added one assist Tuesday to fuel Nazareth's 15-7 non-conference victory over Westfield State in women's lacrosse at the National Training Center.
Nazareth improved to 2-0 overall and play again Thursday against Ursinus at 12 p.m. Westfield State is 0-2.
The Golden Flyers never trailed Tuesday evening as they defeated the Owls for the second year in a row. Four of Rothrock's goals came in the second half when the Golden Flyers were pulling away from a 6-4 halftime lead. Senior
Brooke Sullivan and junior
Carly Gates each scored three goals and sophomore
Jamie Martin added two goals. Nazareth had a 33-20 edge in shots and a 17-15 advantage in ground balls. The Golden Flyers also won 14 of 24 draw controls. Sullivan and senior
MacKenzie Haley each had three draw controls.
Sullivan opened the scoring on a free-position shot at 27:08, the Rothrock added an unassisted score just over five minutes into the game. Goals by senior

Haley DeVona and Sullivan and Gates enabled Nazareth to extend the lead to 6-2, but the Owls stayed close by scoring the last two goals of the first half to draw within 6-4.
Gates scored again just :22 into the second half and Rothrock scored 75 seconds later. Westfield State goals by Meg Griffin and Samantha Lingarini made the score 8-6, before Nazareth rattled off six straight goals and seven of the last eight.
Rothrock's third and fourth goals of the game came just 20 seconds apart to make the score 10-6. Martin then added her two goals -- one on an assist from
Hayley Spoljaric and the other unassisted -- to make it 12-6. Goals by Rothrock, Gates and Sullivan closed out the scoring.
Senior
Ashley Kirch started in goal and made nine saves. Freshman
Mackenzie Corbett played the final 6:19 and made one save.
