Updated Stats ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College women's basketball squad scored its highest point total since the 2001-02 season, knocking off Medaille College, 92-59, on Saturday afternoon in the Golden Flyers home-opener. It is the second time this season that the Golden Flyers offense has surpassed the 90 point mark.
With the win, Nazareth improves to 4-0 on the season, while Medaille falls to 0-4.
Nazareth took control from the start, scoring the first 12 points of the game in just over three minutes of play.
Sam Sorge hit her third 3-pointer of the quarter to put Nazareth on top 29-10. Her 13 first quarter points helped Nazareth hold a 34-16 advantage heading into the second period.
Lindsey Kelly was an efficient 9-for-10 in the opening half for 21 points. Nazareth shot 62.9 percent (22-for-35) from the field and 58.3 (7-for-12) from 3-point land to take a 56-35 lead into the break.
The Golden Flyers continued to cruise in the second half, building their largest lead of the game at 79-42, following a
Fanny Kilpinen layup late in the third quarter.
Kelly nearly totaled a career-high in points after pouring in 26 on 11-for-12 shooting, while also pulling down 11 boards. Classmate Sorge went 8-for-13 for 19 points, while
Julia Brew drilled four 3-pointers en route to 18 points.
Kipenen also scored in double figures with 13 points (5-for-9). She also grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.
Sara Barton scored her first career points after converting 1-of-2 free throws.
Nazareth returns to action on Tuesday when it will host a first round contest for the Wendy's College Classic at 8 p.m. The opponent will be announced on Sunday.
