Updated StatsROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Nazareth College volleyball squad bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Montclair State (25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 18-25) on Friday, with a five set come-from-behind win over NYU (21-25, 12-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-12) at the New York State Challenge held at Kidera Gymnasium.
In its opening contest against Montclair State,
Cady Messmer led the Golden Flyers in kills (15) and digs (11). Freshman
Kelsey Milligan set a career-high with 14 kills in the match.
Maureen Thayer dished out a season-high 46 assists.
Jennifer Hicks also recorded 12 digs for Nazareth.
After falling down by two sets against NYU, Nazareth mustered a 26-24 win in the third set. The Violets came back from a 24-19 deficit to tie the contest, before Nazareth scored the final two points, capped by a Messmer kill.
Celia Cordero and
Jennifer Hicks each notched four kills in the fourth set as Nazareth hit .240.
In the fifth and final set, Messmer paved the way, registering six of her 15 kills in the mtach. She also added nine digs.
Hicks recorded 13 digs of her own, while Cordero notched nine.
Thayer finished with 44 assists.
Nazareth is back in action tomorrow for the New York Challenge when they will host Rowan at 10:30 a.m. for its only contest of the day.
