Nazareth downs Manhattanville, 3-1

Golden Flyers improve to 7-14-1 overall

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth used a pair of third-period goals Saturday in an ECAC West hockey game against Manhattanville as the Golden Flyers claimed a 3-1 victory over the Valiants. The victory enabled Nazareth to salvage a split of its two-game weekend series with the Valiants. Nazareth is 7-14-1 overall and 3-8-1 in conference play. Manhattanville, which defeated Nazareth 3-2 in overtime on Friday, dropped to 11-9-1 overall and 4-6-1 in the ECAC West.

Sophomore Scott Andler scored two goals for the Golden Flyers -- his third and fourth of the season -- including one in the third period at 6:04 that snapped a 1-1 tie. Zach Lewis and Jon-Paul Durso assisted. Just over a minute later, Chris Murray scored an insurance goal with an assist from Ben Blasko to provide the two-goal margin of victory.

Lewis also had an assist on Andler's first goal, at 5:42 of the opening period, that gave Nazareth a 1-0 advantage. Scott Dawson also gained an assist. Manhattanville tied the score about eight minutes later as Kevin Struempfler scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Luc Van Natter.

Manhattanville outshot Nazareth 11-7 in the second period, but neither team scored, setting the stage for the third period in which Nazareth was outshot again 11-5. Manhattanville had a 31-18 advantage overall in shots with Nazareth goalie Ed Zdolshek making 30 saves in his second start of the weekend. Alex Scola made 15 saves for the Valiants.

Nazareth plays again Friday at Utica at 7 p.m.
