Nazareth, Neumann tie 2-2

Golden Flyers finish regular season at 8-15-2 overall

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Neumann rallied from a 2-0 deficit Saturday to even the score with Nazareth as the two teams played to a 2-2 tie in an ECAC West men's hockey game at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.

Both teams completed their regular-season schedules. Nazareth is 8-15-2 overall and 4-9-2 in the ECAC West. Neumann is 9-11-5 overall and 4-8-3 in the ECAC West. As the sixth-place finisher in the conference standings, Nazareth will play at third-place Hobart in a playoff game Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Nazareth led 2-0 after goals by Mark Zavorin and Don Olivieri in the first two periods. Zavorin's goal was his seventh of the season and came at 7:10 of the opening period off passes from Tom Seravalli and Rocky Gruttadauria.

Olivieri's goal was his third of the season and came at 14:27 of the second period with assists from Seravalli and Zavorin. Neumann answered less than a minute later as Ryan Luiten scored his 10th goal of the season off assists from Collin O'Neil and Casey Rogers.

Nazareth took a pair of costly penalties in the third period and Neumann capitalized with a power play goal at 6:32 from Shayne Morrissey, who scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season to even the score. The power play resulted from penalties to Zavorin fro slashing and to Mike Miller for elbowing.

The score went unchanged through the remainder of regulation play and then into overtime, although Neumann had the better of the play with a 20-7 shooting advantage in the third period and in overtime.

In overtime, the Golden Flyers successfully killed off a two-minute penalty to Zach Lewis for goaltender interference.

Neumann hada 39-23 shooting advantage overall. Ben Curley made 21 saves for Neumann, while Nazareth's Ed Zdolshek totaled 37 saves.
