GENEVA, N.Y. -- Host Hobart, ranked 15th nationally by d3hockey.com, scored the first four goals of Saturday afternoon's game and defeated Nazareth 5-1 in an ECAC West Conference hockey game. Sophomore
Scott Dawson scored the Golden Flyers' goal toward the end of the second period to cut Nazareth's deficit to 4-1 going into the third period.
With the loss, Nazareth's four-game winning streak is snapped and the Golden Flyers fall to 6-13-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference games. The Statesmen, meanwhile, improve to 11-5-4 overall and 5-2-3 in ECAC West games with the victory. Nazareth rallied past Hobart 4-3 in Friday's game. The teams tied 4-4 in November at the Bill Gray's Iceplex.
The Statesmen scored their first two goals on the power play. The first goal was by Bronson Kovacs and assisted by Bo Webster. Kovacs' goal came with 3:02 to play in the first period. Ben Gamache tallied the second power play goal, which he scored roughly seven minutes into the second period, after receiving a pass from Ryan Michel.
Kovacs found the Golden Flyers' net again about four minutes after Gamache's goal to stretch Hobart's lead to three goals. Mitch Beyer and Brad McBride had the assists. With 1:18 to play in the second period, Mac Olson scored short-handed.
Dawson's power play goal, with 10 seconds to play in the second stanza, trimmed Hobart's lead to three goals before the end of the period. Junior
Tom Seravalli had the assist on Dawson's goal. Following Saturday's game, Dawson ranked fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and 10 assists while Seravalli was second with eight goals and eight assists.
Terrence O'Neill scored the lone third-period goal to give the Statesmen the four-goal victory. Gamache and Webster earned the assists.
Nazareth sophomore
Ed Zdolshek played the opening 52:35 and was credited with 28 saves and five goals allowed. Classmate
Joe Gladnick played the final 7:25 in net and recorded one save. Hobart's Tim Keegan had 35 saves to earn the victory. The Golden Flyers finished with a 36-34 edge in shots on goal.
The Golden Flyers are in action again February 7th when Nazareth hosts Manhattanville in an ECAC West contest at the Bill Gray's Iceplex. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
