Nazareth rallies past Hobart for fourth straight win, 4-3

Teams meet again Saturday at 4 p.m.

GENEVA, N.Y. – Visiting Nazareth scored a pair of third-period goals Friday to rally for its fourth straight men's hockey win as the Golden Flyers upset 15th-ranked Hobart, 4-3, in an ECAC West game.

Goals by Ben Blasko and Jordan Ciccarello enabled the Golden Flyers to overcome a 3-2 deficit and improved their overall record to 6-12-1 and 2-6-1 in conference play. Mark Zavorin also scored twice for Nazareth. Hobart, ranked 15th nationally by d3hockey.com, had an eight-game winning streak snapped as they dropped to 10-5-4 overall and 4-2-3 in conference play. The teams tied 4-4 Nov. 8 at Nazareth. They play again for the third and final time this season Saturday at 4 p.m.

Hobart led 2-0 on first-period goals from Carl Belizario and Mitch Beyer. Nazareth rallied behind a pair of power play goals by Mark Zavorin. The first one came at 18:18 of the first period off assists from Don Olivieri and Travis Hill.

Zavorin added his fourth goal of the season at 5:20 of the second period following a Hobart bench minor for too many men on the ice. Jordan Ciccarello and Packy Jones assisted.

Hobart regained the lead with :56 left in the second period on a goal by Tommy Fiorentino, set up by Belizario.

The score went unchanged until 11:22 of the third period when Blasko stole a pass and scored his eighth goal of the season unassisted. Less than three minutes later, with less than five minutes to play in regulation, Ciccarello scored the game-winner on a blast from the left point. Tom Seravalli assisted.

Hobart outshot Nazareth 40-26 and goalie Ed Zdolshek made 37 saves. Lino Chimient had 22 saves for Hobart.

The victory enabled Nazareth to equal last season's victory total with six regular-season games remaining.
