ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Ben Blasko scored the game-winning goal for host Nazareth midway through the third period to help the Golden Flyers defeat Stonehill 4-3 in a non-conference hockey game on Saturday afternoon. Blasko's third-period goal was his second of the contest. He scored Nazareth's first goal of the game to tie the score 1-1 in the first period.
With the victory, the Golden Flyers improve to 2-10-1 overall. Following the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 6-8 overall.
Blasko's game-winning scoring opportunity, which came at the 10:19 mark of the third period, was set up by an odd-man rush down the right side of the ice. Sophomore
Scott Dawson passed the puck to Blasko and was credited with the assist.
In the first period, Richard Harris broke the scoreless tie 7:02 into regulation. Harris scored after collecting the puck from Bryan Rooney's initial shot. Rooney's shot was saved, but Harris skated across the goal mouth and slid the puck into the left side of the net. Blasko tied the game less than five minutes later as he broke through the Stonehill defense. Senior
Mark Zavorin set up the scoring chance with a pass to Blasko. The Golden Flyers took their first lead of the game following a Stonehill turnover in the Skyhawks' defensive zone. Junior
Tom Seravalli deflected the shot from the right point past Stonehill's Patrick Farrington to give Nazareth the edge with 7:47 to play in the stanza. Freshmen

Geoff Bagnall had the assists.
The Golden Flyers extended their advantage to two goals midway through the second period. With the power play advantage, freshman
David Seward extended the lead 3:24 later with a shot over the shoulder of Farrington as he skated across the ice. Classmate
Justin LaCorte and Blasko earned the assists. Stonehill cut Nazareth's lead to one goal 3:24 later on its power play opportunity. Harris scored his second goal of the game off assists from Connor Fallon and Travis Army.
Roughly six minutes into the third stanza, Stephen Balsamo temporarily tied the game after receiving a pass from Kevin Airoldi. Balsamo took advantage of a two-on-one rush and came in on Zdolshek after a pass from Airoldi. The deadlock lasted 4:23 before Blasko connected on his game-winner. With his two goals, continues to lead the team with seven goals. Seravalli is second on the team with five goals. Seward's goal was his third goal of the season after scoring two goals last night against Oswego.
Zdolshek finished with 26 saves to earn the victory, including multiple shots from in front of the goal. Farrington amassed a game-high 32 saves in the loss. The Golden Flyers were 1-2 on the power play while Nazareth's penalty kill held the Skyhawks to 1-7 with the man advantage. The Golden Flyers finished with a 41-37 advantage in faceoffs. Blasko won 11 of 15 faceoffs to lead all players.
Nazareth is in action again on the 14th when the Golden Flyers travel to Buffalo State for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
