Golden Flyers fall to Manhattanville, 6-3

Nazareth hosts Elmira at 7 p.m. on November 22nd

STAMFORD, CT. -- Nazareth fell to host Manhattanville 6-3 in an ECAC West hockey game on Saturday afternoon. Junior Tom Seravalli, freshman Ben Blasko, and sophomore Jon-Paul Durso each scored for the Golden Flyers.

With the loss, Nazareth drops to 1-4-1 overall and 0-4-1 in conference games. With the victory, the Valiants improve to 3-2 overall and in ECAC West games.

Seravalli opened the scoring just over six minutes into the first period to give the Golden Flyers the early advantage. Junior Julius Tamasy and senior Mark Zavorin were credited with the assists. It was Seravalli's second goal of the season.

Nazareth maintained the lead until the final minutes of the period when Manhattanville scored twice in the final 2:52 of the stanza. Matt Coleman tied the game with just under three minutes remaining, then 44 seconds before the end of the period Craig Simchuk scored a power play goal to give the Valiants the lead. Anton Racklin and Paul Allan Bamberg had assists on Coleman's goal while Luc Van Natter and Jake Mooney assisted on Simchuk's tally.

Manhattanville's momentum carried into the beginning of the second period as Tanner Hicks scored another power play goal 1:12 into the period. Mooney and Mark Rivera had the assists. Nazareth was whistled for two penalties in a span of 92 seconds toward the end of the first period to give Manhattanville the man-advantage opportunities.

Blasko's unassisted power play goal at the 7:35 mark of the second period trimmed Nazareth's deficit to one goal. Blasko leads the team with three goals on the season.

Similar to the second period, the Valiants opened the third with a goal in the opening two minutes of the period to stretch their advantage to 4-2. Bamberg scored his first of the season after a pass from Van Natter. Kevin Struempfler also had an assist. With five minutes remaining in regulation, Van Natter was on the scoring end of Manhattanville's fifth goal. Coleman and Bamberg recorded the assists.

Durso's goal, 1:18 after Van Natter's, trimmed the Golden Flyers' deficit to two goals, 5-3. Sophomore Scott Dawson recorded his second assist of the season to set up Durso's goal.

Louie Balzano tallied Manhattanville's sixth goal in the closing minutes of regulation. Rivera and Anton Racklin were credited with the assists.

Sophomore Ed Zdolshek recorded 32 saves for Nazareth, including 23 between the first two periods. The Valiants' Alex Scola amassed a game-high 34 saves to earn the victory. Scola had 25 saves between the final two periods as the Golden Flyers increased their offensive pressure.

Manhattanville finished with a 38-37 edge in shots on goal and had a 51-41 advantage in faceoffs won. The Valiants were 2-6 on the power play, and Nazareth was 1-4 with the man-advantage.

The Golden Flyers are in action again on Friday evening when they host Elmira in another ECAC West contest at 7 p.m. at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.
