HOBOKEN, N.J. –#24 Stevens Institute of Technology went on a 13-2 scoring run mid-way through the second half to defeat Nazareth 74-64 in men's basketball. Nazareth is now 11-5, 5-2 in the Empire 8 while Stevens remains unbeaten in the Empire 8 at 6-0 and improves to 13-1 overall.
The first half saw 11 lead changes as both teams struggled to get into a scoring rhythm. The Golden Flyers shot just 36% from the field but still held a 24-23 lead at the half.
Jack Giles scored all nine of his points in the first half after shooting 3-for-3 from behind the arc.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half before the Ducks took the lead for good at 13:44 when Kenny Gann scored to give Stevens a 38-36 advantage.
Stevens had a 42-40 edge over Nazareth at 12:43, and then went on a 15-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 55-42 lead with 9:21 left in the game.
Dan Waldbillig scored a free-throw to end the scoring drought.
The Golden Flyers chipped back at the Ducks lead and were within five points with 1:30 and 1:13 left in the game but ran out of time.
Brad Ford finished the game with a team high 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Tyshun Stephens finished with 16 points and dished out four assists.
Stevens out-rebounded Nazareth 41-31.
The Golden Flyers are on the road again tomorrow night at Hartwick. Tip-off is at 7 pm.
