ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Junior
James Wheeler scored once and added two assists Saturday as host Nazareth scored three times in the opening half and went on to a 3-0 victory over Oswego in a non-conference men's soccer match at Golden Flyer Stadium.
Nazareth reamined unbeaten at 3-0 with the victory, while Oswego dropped to 1-3 overall. Nazareth is home again Tuesday for another non-league game against Fredonia at 4 p.m.
The Golden Flyers scored all three of their goals before the game was 25 minutes old. Senior
Shane Mead scored his first goal of the season in the fifth minute as he converted a corner kick off the foot of Wheeler.
In the 14th minute, Wheeler delivered his third goal of the season on a hard blast from about 20 yards away. Junior
Luke Elston picked up the assist. Less than 10 minutes after that, the Elston-Wheeler combination came through again with Elston contributing his team-leading fifth goal of the season with help from Wheeler, who leads the team with three assists.
The balance of the game was a defensive battle with Nazareth limiting Oswego to just nine shots overall. Sophomore #J.P. Horan
had two saves for his first career shutout. Nazareth also got a defensive save from sophomore Kory Seibt#, who headed a potential goal by Oswego's Matt Hettler out of the goal mouth. P.J. Goodwin played all 90 minutes for the Lakers and made five saves.
