ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The women's and men's cross country teams competed at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester on Saturday. In another race featuring division one competition, freshman
Shanna Swanson was Nazareth's top finisher in the women's six-kilometer race as she finished 107th of 360 runners with a time of 24:09. Senior
Pete Fekete was the Golden Flyers' top finisher in the men's eight-kilometer race, finishing 123rd of 333 runners with a time of 27:20.
Cornell dominated the women's race by recording the top nine finishes. The Big Red finished with a total of 15 points. St. Lawrence and Dickinson finished second and third respectively with 75 points and 155 points, respectively. The Golden Flyers finished 18th of the 23 teams with 525 total points.
Swanson was followed across the finish line by junior
Lauren Heitzhaus (24:09) and seniors
Kelsey Ryan (24:46) and
Lauren Jamieson (25:19). Heitzhaus finished 124th, Ryan placed 162nd, and Jamieson was 208th. Freshman
Courtney Pitman rounded out Nazareth's top five in 228th with a time of 25:31. Senior
Kayla Murphy (25:32) and freshman
Bridget Dunbar (25:32) claimed the two spaces following Pitman.
Junior
Kayleigh Olive (25:44) placed 241st, followed by freshman
Blair Meeson (26:01) and sophomore
Michaela Gildemeyer (26:03) to finish the Golden Flyers' top 10.
In the men's meet, Cornell also claimed an easy victory by finishing in the top five spots for another perfect score of 15 points. Geneseo finished second with 105 points, followed by Rochester with 115 total points. Nazareth had a team score of 578 points to place 19th of 24 teams.
Junior
Matt Fedrizzi was the Golden Flyers' second runner to finish as he completed the course in 172nd place with a time of 27:53. Freshman
Patrick Neureuter (28:49) was 232nd overall, followed by senior
Josh Strough (29:12) in 248th. Junior
Jake Lafaver was Nazareth's fifth finisher in 260th and a time of 29:27. Lafaver beat two other runners at the finish line to secure the Golden Flyers' finish.
Nazareth's next competition is at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on September 28th or the Harvey Anderson Invitational at Roberts Wesleyan on September 29th.
