BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Host Buffalo State banged out 13 hits in a 12-5 win over Nazareth in the first game of a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday. The Bengals then took advantage of five Nazareth fielding errors to take the nightcap, 9-1.
Buffalo State improved to 19-15 overall with the doubleheader sweep, while Nazareth slipped to 8-24.
Nazareth had a 4-1 lead in the first game before the Bengals scored six times in the fourth and five more times in the sixth. Breanna Fenski and Sam Strapason hit home runs for Buffalo State. Fenski also had four runs batted in.
Freshman
Sophia Rhoades hit a solo home run for Nazareth, her third of the season, in the sixth inning. Freshman
Nicole Bayona contributed a two-run double in a three-run fourth inning.
In the second game, Nazareth managed just two hits off Bengals' starter Maddie Coneys. Sophomore
Liz Toner had a double in the fourth inning and eventually scored Nazareth's lone run on an infield grounder by Rhoades. Freshman
Danielle Sancilio had Nazareth's other hit, a single in the fifth inning.
Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule with doubleheaders at Stevens Friday and at Elmira Sunday. The Golden Flyers are home Saturday for a doubleheader against Houghton.
