ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Oswego erupted for three goals in a span of 2:11 to claim a 3-0 lead midway through the first half. Following the scoring outburst, the Lakers held off Nazareth's attempted rally and defeated the Golden Flyers 3-2 in a non-conference contest. Juniors Alexis Root and Sarah Wazenkewitz scored the Nazareth goals.

Following the loss, the Golden Flyers slip to 6-11 overall. Going into Tuesday's contest, Nazareth had won five of their previous six games. Oswego improves to 5-10 with the victory.

Jess Felice broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal 14:18 into the first half to ignite the Lakers' offensive outburst. It was Felice's first goal of the season. Before Oswego's goal, Nazareth's defense fended off four penalty corner chances in roughly two and a half minutes to keep the game scoreless.

About a minute later after Felice scored, Rachel Johnston scored her first goal of the year after she received a pass from Courtney Collins. Johnston's goal also followed a penalty corner opportunity. Following Johnston's tally, Taylor Stein found the back of the Golden Flyers' net to extend Oswego's lead to 3-0. It was Stein's fifth goal of the season, which has her tied for the Lakers' team lead. Alyssa Hare was credited with the assist on Stein's goal.

Nazareth trimmed its deficit before the end of the opening period. Senior Lindsey Smith provided the scoring opportunity for Root's goal, which Root scored with about four minutes to play in the first half. Root's goal was her fifth goal of the season.

Ten minutes into the second half, Wazenkewitz converted a penalty corner opportunity to score her sixth goal of the season and cut the Lakers' lead to one goal. Wazenkewitz received a pass from senior Tessa Knapp to convert the corner. Knapp had a shot attempt blocked only 30 seconds prior to setting up Wazenkewitz.

Following the Golden Flyers' second goal, Nazareth dominated Oswego with a 5-1 advantage in penalty corners and a 6-1 advantage in shots in the final 16 minutes of regulation. The Lakers' goalie, Grace Lombardi, made three saves while the other three Nazareth shots went wide of the goal. Two of Lombardi's saves were separated by just seconds as she stymied Root and Knapp on back-to-back shots. Knapp finished with five total shots, including three shots on goal.

The Golden Flyers finished the game with a 13-6 advantage in total shots, including an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. The Golden Flyers also had a 16-9 advantage in penalty corners. Lombardi finished with a game-high six saves for Oswego. Sophomore Shannon Winney was credited with two saves for the Golden Flyers.
