ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting St. John Fisher scored the game-winning goal with 1:20 left in the first overtime period Saturday as the Cardinals defeated Nazareth, 1-0, in a key Empire 8 Conference men's soccer game at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The loss was Nazareth's sixth in its last seven games and evened the Golden Flyers' overall record at 6-6. The Golden Flyers are 1-3 in conference games. Fisher remained unbeaten in the E8 at 4-0-1. The Cardinals are 8-4-1 overall.

In an evenly played game, Fisher's Jake Quattrini broke free for the game-winning score after teammate Sean Fishel threaded a pass through the Nazareth defense. Quattrini's shot beat a diving Nazareth goalie #J.P. Horan# to the right corner of the goal and the winning tally. It was Quattrini's fifth goal of the season.

Each team had chances before that. Fisher had three shots in the first half alone that were cleared off the goal line by the Nazareth defense. In addition, Quattrini had a shot in the 14th minute that caromed off the crossbar.

Nazareth's best chance came in the 29th minute when a header by Brian Lang skipped off the crossbar. Nazareth also had a flurry in the second half as consecutive shots by James Wheeler, Simon Mounsdon and Luke Elston were turned away by Fisher keeper Kyle Metcalfe.

Nazareth had 16 shots overall to Fisher's 15. Each team had eight corner kicks. Horan finished with five saves, while Metcalfe had nine for the Cardinals.

Nazareth plays again Tuesday in a non-conference match at Hobart at 7 p.m.
