ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting University of Rochester roughed up Nazareth in a pair of non-conference softball games Tuesday. The Yellowjackets had 12 hits in each game to win 14-1 and 15-0.
The Yellowjackets improved to 12-8 overall. Nazareth dropped to 3-11.
In the first game, Nazareth's
Kelly Kocher had her toughest outing of the season on the pitcher's mound as she was charged with six earned runs in 3.1 innings with six walks and three strikeouts.
UR led 2-0 through three innings, then broke the game open with eight runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth. Freshman Nina Korn had two hits and drove in four and junior Natalee Sassaman had three runs batted in.
Nazareth managed just four hits off UR starter Madeline Skellie, who walked two and struck out seven. The Golden Flyers' lone run came in the bottom of the fifth when freshman
Kasey Pollot scored on a single by freshman
Claire Campbell, who had two hits. Sophomore
Jennifer Durso and junior
Casey Mathers had the other Nazareth hits.
In the second game, UR got home runs from Amanda Klug and M.C. Wagner while taking advantage of eight Nazareth errors. Nazareth had four hits -- singles by freshman
Shauna Bardanis, sophomore
Kaitlin Graham and Mathers, plus a double by sophomore
Mandy Weakley.
Sara Hutchinson tossed the four-hit shutout for the Yellowjackets. Freshman
Meg DeMario was the losing pitcher for Nazareth. She was relieved by Durso in the fourth.
Nazareth visits Cazenovia Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
