Nazareth sweeps Stevens in E8

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Second-seeded Nazareth cruised past third-seeded Stevens in a three-set Empire 8 Tournament semifinal match for women's volleyball Saturday. The Golden Flyers swept the Ducks by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-21.

Nazareth improved to 25-12 overall and gained a spot in Sunday's conference championship match. Nazareth will take on top-seeded Elmira Sunday at 1 p.m. for the E8 title. Elmira outlasted St. John Fisher in the other semifinal match, winning in five sets 25-18, 24-26, 25-13, 20-25, 15-12.

For Nazareth freshman Maria Allocco, the E8 Rookie of the Year, posted a .737 hitting percentage with 15 kills against just one hitting error in 19 attempts. Junior Amy Johnson also was productive with a .474 hitting percentage that featured 10 kills with one error in 19 attempts.

Junior Brittany Crocetti had 19 digs and junior setter Aubrey Cooke amassed 41 assists.

Against the Soaring Eagles Sunday, Nazareth will attempt to avenge an earlier defeat as the Golden Flyers lost a three-set match at Elmira Sept. 24. Nazareth has won 13 of its last 16 matches and is seeking its first E8 title since 2006 and its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2007.
