ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Despite a 33-9 disadvantage in shots and a 17-7 margin in corner kicks, Nazareth battled to a 1-1 draw with 12th-ranked Rochester in men's soccer Tuesday at Fauver Stadium.
Nazareth is now 1-4-2 following the non-conference game, while the Yellowjackets' record moved to 4-0-3. UR had won nine straight meetings with the Golden Flyers.
Chris Blivin scored for the Yellowjackets just 2:16 into the game off an assist from Josh Richards and the Yellowjackets continued to challenge Nazareth goalkeeper
Kyle Connolly, who finished with nine saves overall.
Nazareth had three of its four first-half shots in the closing minutes and finally broke through with just 19 seconds left as freshman
Ryan Foley scored his first goal of the season following a scramble in the box. Junior
Sean Dorman was credited for an assist.
Rochester had 12 more shots in the second half and eight in overtime, but the Golden Flyers held serve to gain the tie.
Each team had opportunities in the first overtime. Nazareth's
Rikesh Kotak tried to chase down a long pass in the box with less than three minutes to play in the first ot, but the ball was poked away by a UR defender and Yellowjackets' keeper Scott Garfing snatched it.
With less than a minute left, Blivin blasted a shot from the top of the box, but Connolly punched it over the goal to preserve the tie.
The Golden Flyers open Empire 8 Conference play Saturday at Ithaca at 2:30 p.m.
