ROCHESTER, NY -- Nazareth defeated Brockport 2-1 in the second annual Golden Challenge game for women's soccer. The Golden Flyers snapped a two-game losing streak in the process. The Golden Flyers improve to 2-2 while the Golden Eagles fall to 2-2. Both teams wore pink in their jerseys and all proceeds from the game will be donated to the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center.
Despite being out-shot 14-7 in the first half, Brockport scored the first goal of the game at 36:49 when Brooke Greer collected a rebound off the crossbar to beat Nazareth goalkeeper
Hillary Simon. Sarah Lawson was credited with the assist.
Nazareth freshman
Anne Czelusniak responded just three minutes later as she shot from 35 yards out to score her first career goal and tie the score 1-1 at 39:16.
Sophomore
Christine Belding scored her first of the season and the game-winner at 57:20 off a crossing assist from
Amanda Sudore.
Simon finished with six saves in the win while Brockport's Erin Asquith recorded eight.
The Golden Flyers out-shot Brockport 25-11 and had a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Nazareth hosts Alfred on Wednesday, September 15 at 4 p.m. to open its Empire 8 schedule.
