DeCirce named co-Player of the Year

Golden Flyers get three first-teamers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Three Nazareth men's lacrosse players have been recognized as first-team all-stars by the Empire 8 Conference as the league announced its all-conference teams Tuesday. Included in that mix for Nazareth is senior attackman Mark DeCirce, who has been named conference co-Player of the Year. The teams were selected through voting by the league's head coaches.

Joining DeCirce on the first team are junior attackman Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar and junior midfielder Scott Castle. Nazareth also had three second-team choices in senior long-stick midfielder Kyle Brown, junior defenseman Brian Orr and senior goalie Todd Dermody. Sophomore attackman #C.J. Estes and junior defenseman Mitchel Frey made honorable mention and senior defenseman Brian O'Donnell# was Nazareth's representative as Sportsman of the Year.

DeCirce, of Binghamton, N.Y. and a graduate of Binghamton High School, shared Player of the Year honors with RIT midfielder Jordan MacIntosh. DeCirce also is a repeat selection to the first team. He was the Golden Flyers' second-leeading scorer in 2010 with 63 points on 38 goals and 25 assists, including 32 points against Empire 8 opponents. He finished with 98 career goals and 147 points.

Jacobs-Ferderbar, of Orchard Park, N.Y. and a graduate of Orchard Park High School, led the Golden Flyers with 65 points on 35 goals and 30 assists. With one year to play, he has 82 career goals and 137 points. In 2010, he scored a goal in 16 of the Golden Flyers' 17 games.

Castle, of Skaneateles, N.Y. and a graduate of Skaneateles High School, is a repeat selection to the first team as the Golden Flyers' top scoring midfielder. He had 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists and recorded a goal in 15 of the Golden Flyers' 17 games.

Brown, of Baltimore, Md. and a graduate of Catonsville High School, played in all 17 games for the Golden Flyers as a long-stick middie and contributed six goals and two assists with 43 ground balls.

Orr, of Medford, Mass. and a graduate of Malden Catholic, had 35 ground balls for Nazareth as a starter on close defense.

Dermody, of Selden, N.Y. and a graduate of Newfield High School, had 131 saves and a 8.23 goals-against average in 16 starts.

Estes, of Medfield, Mass, Mass. and a graduate of Hebron Academy, was Nazareth's third leading scorer with 35 goals and 52 points. He also also had a team-best 72 ground balls.

Frey, of Terrace Park, Ohio and a graduate of Moeller High School, had 27 ground balls in 15 games.
