SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Junior
Kristi Custer broke her own school record in the triple jump for Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers' track and field teams competed in the Syracuse Invitational at Manley Field House.
Custer's final leap of 10.93 meters vaulted her to third place in the competition, behind only Division I competitors from Binghamton and Syracuse. Her distance translates to 35 feet, 10 1/2 inches -- more than eight inches farther than her previous record set last week at the Empire 8 Conference Meet at RIT.
Graduate student
Melissa Cutcliffe, Empire 8 champion in the long jump, finished fifth at Syracuse Saturday with a distance of 5.29 meters or 17 feet, 4 1/4 inches.
Among the other competitors for Nazareth were sophomore
Evelyn DeSantis, who finished 17th in the 400-meter dash (1:06.57); sophomore
Deb Morey, who was 17th in the 55-meter hurdles (9.90); and freshman
Lauren Jamieson, who finished 19th in the mile run (5:34.70).
In the men's meet, graduate student
Robby Castor turned in his best time of the season in the 800-meter run as he finished sixth in 1:57.57. Sophomore
Dan Polino finished 10th in the triple jump (12.02 meters, 39 feet, 5 1/4 inches) and 15th in the long jump (5.73 meters, 18 feet, 9 3/4 inches).
