SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Graduate student Robby Castor turned in his best time of the season in the 800-meter run Saturday as the Golden Flyers' track and field teams competed in the Syracuse Invitational at Manley Field House.

Castor finished sixth in the race with a time of 1:57.57. Sophomore Dan Polino finished 10th in the triple jump (12.02 meters, 39 feet, 5 1/4 inches) and 15th in the long jump (5.73 meters, 18 feet, 9 3/4 inches).

In the women's meet, junior Kristi Custer broke her own school record in the triple jump. Custer's final leap of 10.93 meters vaulted her to third place in the competition, behind only Division I competitors from Binghamton and Syracuse. Her distance translates to 35 feet, 10 1/2 inches -- more than eight inches farther than her previous record set last week at the Empire 8 Conference Meet at RIT.

Graduate student Melissa Cutcliffe, Empire 8 champion in the long jump, finished fifth at Syracuse Saturday with a distance of 5.29 meters or 17 feet, 4 1/4 inches.

Among the other competitors for Nazareth were sophomore Evelyn DeSantis, who finished 17th in the 400-meter dash (1:06.57); sophomore Deb Morey, who was 17th in the 55-meter hurdles (9.90); and freshman Lauren Jamieson, who finished 19th in the mile run (5:34.70).
