ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Sarah Eichelberger scored a pair of second-half goals for host Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers won their third straight women's soccer match with a 2-0 victory over St. Lawrence.
The Golden Flyers improved to 6-4 overall with the non-conference victory. St. Lawrence dropped to 7-4 overall.
Nazareth had a 12-3 second-half advantage in shots and a 19-10 edge overall. The game was scoreless, however, until the 50th minute when Eichelberger accepted a pass from
Erica Conte on the right side of the box. She blasted a shot that deflected off the finger tips of St. Lawrence keeper Abby van Geldern before settling into the back of the net.
About 10 minutes later, Eichelberger struck again as she finished a cross from sophomore
Amanda Sudore with a perfect header that beat van Geldern for her second goal of the game and team-best fifth of the season.
Nazareth played well defensively as senior goalie
Hillary Simon made seven routine saves for her second straight shutout, third of the season and 18th of her career. Freshman
Sarah Cipperly, juniors
Kerry Gannon and
Jessica Jones and senior
Kara Eaker started on defense.
van Geldern finished with 10 saves for St. Lawrence, which had seven of its 10 shots in an evenly played first half. The best scoring chance came in the closing seconds when a shot by Nazareth freshman
Kaile Bushey skipped off the cross bar.
Nazareth plays its next four games at home, including Tuesday's non-conference match against University of Rochester at 4 p.m.
