Nazareth falls to Brockport, 2-0

Golden Flyers play Hobart Sunday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Brockport's Brad Lefort and Steve Abgarian each scored once for the Golden Eagles to lift Brockport to a 2-0 victory over Nazareth in the second game of the Doug May Classic, hosted by Nazareth College. The Golden Eagles goalie, Joe Marino, made six saves to hold the Golden Flyers scoreless in the non-conference match.

Brockport improves to 2-0 on the season. Nazareth, playing its first game, drops to 0-1.

After a scoreless first half, Lefort gave the Golden Eagles a one-goal lead after he received a cross off a corner kick from Christian Tychostup in the 48th minute. About 10 minutes later, Abgarian connected on a penalty shot opportunity after the Golden Flyers were called for a foul in the penalty area.

Brockport played the final 27 minutes with 10 men as Chris Auth was given a red card in the 63rd minute. Sophomore Andrew Alaimo had one of Nazareth's best scoring opportunities late in the second half. Alaimo's shot, from the top of the box, hit the post. Freshman Alex Manchev added several scoring opportunities as he finished with a game-high three shots on goal.

Senior Trey Barresi finished with four saves in goal for Nazareth.

The Golden Flyers held an 18-12 advantage in shots, but Brockport held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Nazareth will play 12th-ranked Hobart Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on the second day of the Doug May Classic. The Statesmen defeated RIT 3-0 in the other game Saturday. RIT will play Brockport at 11a.m. Sunday at Nazareth.
