SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Sophomores Chelsea Charette and Kristin Joyce each scored four goals, helping the Union College women's lacrosse team to a commanding 18-2 victory against non-conference foe Nazareth Tuesday. The win improves ninth-ranked Union's record to 11-2, while Nazareth goes to 8-7.
Charette finished the day with seven points total, helping out on three goals. Joyce finished with five points. Sophomore Abby Stohler (was next on the score sheet with three goals.
In all, six Dutchwomen had multi-point efforts and five had multi-goal games. Junior Allie Cuozzo and junior Jill LaForest each had two goals, while sophomore Casey Dianni had a goal and an assist.
Nazareth was led by goals from junior Alyssia Roberts and sophomore Chelsey Amidon. Senior netminder Maria Fusco made four saves.
At the other end, sophomore Cat Ruggiero played the majority of the game and made one save, while freshman Alexis Deeb supplied 16:18 of relief.
The Dutchwomen struck early and often, posting six goals in the first 10 minutes, including three straight by Joyce, who leads the team with 43 goals.
Union carried a 12-0 lead into the half thanks to a man-up goal by Stohler with just three seconds remaining in the period. The Dutchwomen converted on its only man-advantage.
In the second, Union used the first half of the quarter to build its lead to 16-0 with two goals from Charette – her 31st and 32nd of the season – and LaForest and Dianni.
The Golden Flyers netted their first goal of the game thanks to a long possession and quick hands by Amidon at 8:48. Roberts found the back of the net at 2:28 and Union's Lizzy Rosato scored with 32 seconds remaining to produce the final result.
