ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth enjoyed its best shooting night of the season Friday as the Golden Flyers won their first Empire 8 Conference game of the season, 98-75, over Stevens in men's basketball.
In the victory, Nazareth senior
Ryan McAdam scored 21 points and surpassed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring as Nazareth improved its overall record to 2-6, including a 1-1 mark in the Empire 8. Stevens dropped to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play. McAdam became the 15th Nazareth player to reach the 1,000-point mark. He now has 1,008 points heading into Saturday's home game against Hartwick at 4 p.m.
The Golden Flyers shot 52.8 percent from the field for the game (38-for-72) and 11-for-16 from three-point range. They shot 18 for 33 in the first half (54.5 percent) as they built a 47-31 lead.
They blew the game open in the first three minutes of the second half as they outscored Stevens 21-6 to extend the lead to 31 points, 68-37.
Ryan McAdam scored 11 of his points during the scoring run, including his 1,000th point on a pair of free throws with 17:23 to play.
Nazareth's lead continued to grow and reached as high as 37 points, on a three-pointer by freshman
Jordan Major with 10:40 to play.
Stevens, meanwhile, shot just 39.4 percent from the game (28 for 71) and just 25 percent from three-point range (7 for 28).
Junior
Corey McAdam was Nazareth's high scorer with 22 points. He also delivered a season-high 12 assists and grabbed eight rebounds.
Ryan McAdam's 21 points came on 7 for 16 shooting, including 5 for 6 from three-point range.
Major and senior
Jeff DeHimer each scored 16 points with DeHimer grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.
Senior Virgil Gray led Stevens with 19 points. Justin Sanchez added 12 points and Simon Smith and Michael Cutri each scored 10.
Nazareth hosts Hartwick Saturday and Stevens visits St. John Fisher.
