ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Andrew Alaimo netted the first two goals of his career Wednesday to lead host Nazareth to a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer win over SUNYIT.

Alaimo's goals, both in the first half, enabled the Golden Flyers to win for the second straight  time as they improved to 3-4-1 overall. SUNYIT is 4-5.

After SUNYIT took the lead in the seventh minute on a goal by Kevin Benjamin, Alaimo answered just 30 seconds later as he collected a loose ball in the penalty area and beat SUNYIT goalkeeper Alec Schmitt for the game-tying score.

The game-winning goal came in the 23rd minute when Nazareth's Justin Stevens sent a cross into the penalty area and Alaimo converted again.

Nazareth had another chance later in the half when Stevens was dragged down in the penalty area. The Golden Flyers selected goalkeeper Ryan Platt to take the resulting penalty kick, but his attempt sailed high and over the goal.

Nazareth outshot the visitors 16-12 overall. Platt and Schmitt each had eight saves.

Nazareth is home again Saturday for its Empire 8 Conference opener against St. John Fisher at 1 p.m.
