ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Senior Joe Canori recorded 25 points and junior Ryan McAdam added 16 points to help the visiting Golden Flyers defeat Hartwick 73-61 in an Empire 8 basketball game. Nazareth's win marked the 300th career victory for Nazareth coach Mike Daley.

With the victory, Nazareth improves to 8-3 in the Empire 8 and 15-5 overall. Hartwick falls to 3-8 in conference games and 8-12 overall. Now in his 22nd season at Nazareth, Daley now has a record of 300-267.

After falling behind 9-4 in the first five minutes of the game, the Golden Flyers put together a 23-4 scoring run over the next nine minutes to take a 27-13 lead with 6:19 to play in the first half. Ryan McAdam began the run by connecting with a three-pointer then added two free throws to tie the game 9-9. Nazareth took its first lead of the game with a layup from sophomore Corey McAdam with 12:25 to play in the first half. Ryan McAdam capped off the scoring run by connecting on consecutive three-pointers.

The Hawks cut the Golden Flyers' lead to seven points twice in the final 5:20 of the first half, but Nazareth maintained control of the game. Nazareth received two three-pointers from Canori and one from sophomore Rayvon Higdon to finish the first half with a 9-2 scoring run and to take a 38-24 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Nazareth's offense continued to click and did not allow Hartwick to cut into its double-digit lead. The Golden Flyers stretched their lead to a game-high 20 points, 57-37, following a free throw by Corey McAdam with 10:51 to play.

Higdon added 12 points to Nazareth's attack while Corey McAdam and junior Jeff DeHimer each contributed eight points.  Corey McAdam recorded a game-high 10 assists and six steals while DeHimer totaled a team-high seven rebounds.

Hartwick held a 34-30 advantage in rebounds but the Golden Flyers' tenacious defense forced the Hawks to commit 20 turnovers compared to Nazareth's nine. Jan Cocozziello was Hartwick's only player in double-digits as he tied Canori with a game-high 25 points.

Nazareth continues its Empire 8 schedule Tuesday when the Golden Flyers travel to Alfred for an 8 p.m. game.
