Nazareth runs past Hartwick, 90-61

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Joe Canori scored 30 points and Ryan McAdam added 16 Saturday as Nazareth closed the home portion of its men's basketball schedule with a 90-61 victory over Hartwick at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The Nazareth victory, combined with Ithaca's victory at St. John Fisher, creates a three-way tie for second place in the Empire 8 Conference standings as all three teams are 10-4 in E8 action. Stevens is alone in first place at 12-2. The Golden Flyers are 17-6 overall, while Hartwick is 4-10 in conference games and 9-14 overall.

In defeating the Hawks for the second time in eight days, Nazareth never trailed. Canori scored 19 of his points in the first half and McAdam had 14 of his points as the Golden Flyers built an insurmountable 48-22 advantage. The lead continued to grow in the second half as Nazareth led by as many as 35 points.

Canori's 30 points included four three-point baskets and he also went 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. McAdam went 6 for 7 from the field and made two three-pointers while grabbing seven rebounds.

Canori and fellow seniors Leon Hill and Tyler Smith each were playing in their final regular-season home game. Hill scored six points while Smith contributed nine points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Corey McAdam had eight points and seven steals.

Hartwick's Jan Cocozziello, the Empire 8's leading scorer, led the Hawks with 29 points and 10 rebounds. He amde only five field goals, but went 18 for 22 from the free-throw line.

Nazareth closes out its regular-season schedule next weekend with games at Elmira Friday and Ithaca Saturday.
