Nazareth outscores Elmira, 90-74

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior guard Joe Canori scored 20 points Friday to lead host Nazareth to a 90-74 men's basketball victory over Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action.

The victory boosted Nazareth's overall record to 13-4, including a 6-2 mark in Empire 8 games. Elmira fell to 5-11 overall and 2-6 in conference games.

Elmira led briefly in the first half before Nazareth took control. Elmira led 26-24 following a basket by Palen Andreozzi with 7:49 left in the half. Nazareth answered with 10 straight points and never trailed thereafter. Junior Jeff DeHimer completed a three-point play to start the scoring run, then sophomore Rayvon Higdon made a three-pointer. Baskets by Canori and Ryan McAdam followed and the Golden Flyers were up 34-26 with 4:42 left in the half.

Nazareth settled for a 44-37 advantage after 20 minutes and expanded that lead to as many as 22 points in the second half.

Canori made 8 of 18 shots from the field, including three three-point baskets. Higdon finished with 13 points, while Corey McAdam and Leon Hill each scored 10. Corey McAdam also had 11 assists and four steals.

Three others finished with nine points -- DeHimer, Ryan McAdam and Tyler Smith. Four Elmira players finished in double figures, led by freshman Evan Taylor's 19 points. Robert DePiazza added 13 points, David Nelson 11 and Nick Molak had 10.

Nazareth plays its next four games on the road, beginning with next Friday's matchup at Stevens at 8 p.m.
